Chrysler to file for bankruptcy, merge with Fiat, Obama announces
By Greg Migliore | 04/30/09, 12:43 pm et
Chrysler, an 84-year-old symbol of America's manufacturing might, will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in an unprecedented move announced Thursday by President Barack Obama.
The historic filing is the first for one of Detroit's Big Three. But it's not the end of the road for Chrysler, which will continue operations and has completed a deal to partner with Italian auto giant Fiat, Obama said in a televised address from the White House.
The bankruptcy comes after Chrysler failed to reach an agreement with all of its debt holders. A small group of debt holders had balked in hopes of getting a better deal.

"This is not a sign of...

Eat. We're driven to do it, and maddeningly so. Call it our prime directive, the fundamental force superseding and underpinning all other life functions, a constant and all-consuming need to stuff the gullet, motivated by an evolutionarily embedded understanding that food is scarce in supply and difficult--not to mention dangerous--to access. In other words, our brains tell us to eat whenever...

Pontiac is done by end of 2010

Pontiac--the brand famous for the GTO, the Firebird, the Star Chief and most recently, the Solstice--is dead. It will be phased out by the end of 2010 as part of sweeping cuts announced Monday by General Motors as it tries to remake itself into a smaller company with fewer plants, workers and dealers.
GM said it will concentrate on four U.S. brands--Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC--and that it expects to resolve the fates of Hummer, Saab and Saturn by the end of 2009. It also announced that it will offer stock to its debt holders in an effort to reduce its large debt load. GM warned that it expects to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy if it does not get enough tenders for the exchange by June 1, but the automaker maintained that it prefers to not have to go into bankruptcy.
